Runtime
8 hours of flashing — the only runtime published on this shelf

Fifteen color effects, a built-in rechargeable lithium battery charged over USB, eight hours of flashing, and a box containing two sticks, a carrying bag and a charging cable.

The first thing to say is what they are, because this shelf had a near neighbor that was not. An air drumstick generates its own sound — waved in the air, electronics produce a drum noise — and one was discarded from this catalog because a stick that makes its own sound is a toy rather than a stick. These strike a drum. The electronics light them up and nothing else, so the sound is whatever is hit.

Eight hours is the published figure and the useful one: a rehearsal is two or three, a gig is one, and eight means not thinking about it for a week. It is the only runtime on this shelf because it is the only stick with a battery.

The bag is the quiet advantage. Sticks live loose in a bag and get lost one at a time; a pouch with a charging cable in it keeps a pair together — and these cost more to replace than wood.

What is not published is the stick. No size designation — four of the six on this shelf publish one, three of them 5A. No length, where one publishes 394 mm (15.5 in). No grip diameter, where one publishes 14 mm (0.55 in). And no material: unbroken drumstick is a durability claim, not a wood, and two sticks on this shelf name theirs — hickory and maple.

That matters more on a stick than on most accessories. Weight, balance and the point where a stick pivots in the hand are what a drummer feels, and a pair with no figures at all cannot be matched to the pair already in use.

One pair, where two listings here supply two pairs and one supplies four. On a stick with a battery inside, snapping one is not a seven-dollar problem.

The questions players ask

Are these the same as air drumsticks?

No, and the difference is why this one is on the shelf and another was not. An air drumstick generates its own sound: it is waved, and electronics inside produce a drum noise. That is a toy instrument, not a stick, and one was discarded from this catalog for exactly that reason. These strike a drum. The electronics do nothing but light up, so the sound comes from whatever is hit — a mesh pad, a cymbal, a practice pad.

What size are they?

VHFFOSO does not say, and that is the gap. Four of the six sticks on this shelf publish a size designation — 5A, three times — and one publishes the 394 mm (15.5 in) length and 14 mm (0.55 in) grip that the designation stands for. A stick with no designation and no measurement cannot be compared with the pair already in the bag, and weight and balance are most of what a drummer feels.

  • Yamaha YS7A hickory drumsticks

    Yamaha YS7A

Two bullets and both are measurements: 394 mm (15.5 in) long and 14 mm (0.55 in) at the grip, in hickory. The only stick on this shelf that publishes the figures a size designation is supposed to stand for.

    Length

    Grip diameter
14 mm (0.55 in) — the only grip diameter published on this shelf
    Wood
Hickory, which the page for another stick here calls the standard: stiff, and it absorbs shock rather than transmitting it
    Designation
YS7A. Yamaha publishes the measurements rather than relying on the letter, which is the reverse of everything else on this shelf
    Quantity
One pair. Two sticks here come in two pairs and one in four

  • Youshares foam windscreens for Audio-Technica AT2020 microphones

    Youshares AT2020 windscreens

Two foam windscreens rather than a pop filter: they slip over the capsule instead of standing in front of it, they are made for the Audio-Technica AT2020 and AT2035, and there is no mount at all.

    What it is
Two foam windscreen covers that slip over the microphone. Not a gooseneck pop filter — there is no mesh, no gooseneck and no clamp
    Quantity
Two, which is the only multi-pack on this shelf besides the three-filter package
    Stated compatibility
    Audio-Technica AT2020, AT2020USB and AT2020USB+, with the AT-2035 named in the title
    Material
Quilted foam, which Youshares states is durable and easy to clean
    Stated purpose
Noise cancellation and background noise, plus protecting the microphone from dust and moisture
    Weight
18 g (0.6 oz) — the lightest item on this shelf
    Mount
None. It is held by its own elasticity over the capsule
    Layers
One, of foam. Two filters on this shelf publish two and three layers of mixed materials
    Amazon reference
    B06XQ1MCHP
    EAN
    0724190511824
    • Two in the pack, so one can be washed while the other is in use
    • No mount to fail, no clamp to find a shaft for, and nothing to droop
    • It is a windscreen, not a pop filter — foam on the capsule is less effective against plosives than mesh at a distance

Best for: An AT2020 or AT2035 that has to travel, where a gooseneck and a clamp are two things too many.

  • AODSK wooden universal piano stand for 88-key digital pianos

    AODSK AS-WKBS

A wooden stand with a reinforced back panel, fixed at 25.2 inches high and adjustable only in depth. It trades every height setting for a frame that does not fold, flex or straddle the player’s knees.

    Material
Solid wood, premium thick panels, with a reinforced back panel stated for heavy portable pianos and to minimize wobble. Two of the twelve stands on this shelf are wooden (maker’s bullet)
    Height
Fixed at 25.2 in — 64 cm. The only fixed-height stand on this shelf (maker’s bullet)
    Length
    45.67 in — 116 cm (maker’s bullet)
    Depth
Adjustable, 8.66 to 12 in — 22 to 30 cm (8.7 to 11.8 in), which is what accommodates different keyboard footprints (maker’s bullet)
    Stated fit
76 to 88 keys, most portable digital pianos (from the title)
    Protection
Rubber pads at the contact points against scratching the instrument, and non-slip pads underneath against moving and against marking the floor (maker’s bullet)
    Load rating
AODSK puts nothing in writing on this. The other wooden stand on this shelf publishes 100 lb
    Folding
AODSK puts nothing in writing on this. A wooden frame of this kind does not fold, where nine stands on this shelf state that they do
    Manufacturer reference
    AS-WKBS
    Weight
8,074 g (284.8 oz) in the product record — the heaviest single stand recorded on this shelf, which is what wood instead of tube means

    • A fixed height means no pin, no knob and no joint to work loose over years
    • An open wooden frame leaves the knees clear, where an X-frame puts a bar between them
    • Fixed at 25.2 in: if that is not the right height for the player, nothing can be done

Best for: A digital piano that stays in one room, played by adults, where the stand is furniture rather than kit.

  • AODSK AS-ZK Z-style adjustable keyboard stand

    AODSK AS-ZK

A Z-frame stand that publishes both its adjustment ranges — height and width — and assembles without tools. It is the cheapest Z-frame on this shelf, and it has a wheeled twin two dollars dearer.

    Frame
Z-style, stated heavy-duty. Another page on this shelf sets out why a Z is steadier under weight than a single-braced X (maker’s bullet)
    Height
    21.2 to 32.4 in — 54 to 82 cm (21.3 to 32.3 in) (maker’s bullet)
    Width
    21.8 to 35.2 in — 55 to 89 cm (21.7 to 35 in), stated to take 61 to 88 keys (maker’s bullet)
    Assembly
No tools required, stated quick to set up and adjust. The only stand on this shelf to say so (maker’s bullet)
    Wheels
None. The same maker sells this stand with locking wheels as AS-ZKW, two dollars dearer — and that listing publishes neither of the two ranges above
    Load rating
AODSK puts nothing in writing on this. Another page on this shelf states the rule plainly: where a maker publishes no load figure, this site does not invent one. Five of the twelve stands here publish one
    Retention
AODSK puts nothing in writing on this — no straps, no padded arms, no non-slip caps are mentioned
    Manufacturer reference
    AS-ZK
    Weight
4,536 g (160 oz) in the product record, which is 10 lb exactly — a shipping figure rather than a weighed stand. Nothing here is ranked on it
    Amazon reference
    B0DPW9F4T4
    EAN
    6974012229107
    • The only one of the two AODSK Z-frames that publishes its height and width ranges at all
    • Assembles without tools, which is the difference between a stand set up once and one adjusted often
    • No load rating, on a stand sold for instruments up to 88 keys

Best for: A reader who wants the Z-frame stiffness another page here recommends, at the lowest Z-frame price.
