Why does my drum pad trigger twice?

Usually a slack mesh head or a sensitivity setting, not a faulty module. Tension the head evenly across the lugs first, then adjust the pad’s sensitivity and crosstalk settings in the module.

Check the mechanical causes first

Head tension, evenly across the lugs. Rack clamps tight. The pad’s own mounting not resting against anything that can rebound.

Then the module

Sensitivity too high produces double triggers on hard hits. Threshold too low produces them on soft ones. Both are per-pad settings on most modules.

Why the module is the last suspect

Trigger electronics fail rarely; mesh tension changes constantly, because it is a tensioned membrane that is struck thousands of times a week.

The questions players ask

What is crosstalk?

One pad triggering because a neighboring pad was hit, through vibration in the rack. Modules have a setting for it, and tightening the rack clamps helps as well.

Could it be the sticks?

Rarely, but a very light stick played with a loose grip can produce an unintended second contact. It is worth ruling out by trying a different pair.
