A fitting that locks the strap to the guitar’s strap button so it cannot slip off. It is the only real protection against the instrument falling while you are standing, and it costs a few dollars.
The failure it prevents
A strap end stretches with use and eventually slips over the button. That happens while standing, and the guitar reaches the floor.
What it costs
A few dollars, against a headstock repair that costs a great deal more than a beginner instrument.
What to check
Whether your guitar’s buttons accept the lock directly or need replacing, and whether the strap ends are thick enough to hold.
The questions players ask
Is there a free version?
A rubber washer, or the end cut from a beer-bottle seal, pushed over the button behind the strap. It is not as secure and it is far better than nothing.
Do they fit every guitar?
Most, but the button has to be replaced on some designs. Check what your instrument uses before ordering.
