Pick holder
The upper block can hold picks (maker’s bullet)

115 × 85 × 15 mm (4.53 × 3.35 × 0.59 in) in the product record, for four pieces

Four blocks, two pairs. They slip over the strap and the button you already have. A channel that anchors the lead. A pick holder. Four non-slip picks, two at 0.71 mm and two at 0.96 mm.

This shelf asks whether strap locks are worth fitting and answers yes in its own words — they stop the strap leaving the button, which is the commonest way an instrument ends up on the floor. This is the only strap lock on the shelf, so it is the product form of that answer.

What makes it different from the usual answer is that nothing is modified. Conventional strap locks replace the button: a screw out of the body, a new part in, and a hole that is now the wrong size for the original. On a vintage electric or anything with resale value that is a modification most owners will not make, which is why a great many instruments that should have locks do not have them. A block that clips over the existing button and comes off again sidesteps the whole question, and four pieces covers two instruments rather than one.

The cable channel is the second idea in the same part, and it is a good one. A jack lead hanging out of a guitar is pulled by its own weight and by everything that walks past, and the two outcomes are unplugging mid-song and a strain relief that fails. Anchoring the lead to the lower block puts that pull into the strap instead of the socket — which is what gaffer tape round a strap does on most stages. Nothing else on this shelf anchors a cable, and another page on this site makes the companion point: cables die where they enter the connector.

The four picks are a genuine inclusion rather than a token, and their gauges are published: 0.71 and 0.96 mm (0.04 in), two of each. Three listings on this shelf publish millimeters; this is one.

Two things are not published, and the first is uncomfortable. No material — no polymer, no metal — for a part whose entire function is not to let go. And no manufacturer reference of any kind, which makes matching a replacement a matter of luck. There was also no live offer when this page was built, so there is no price here to set against anything.

The product record gives 18 g (0.6 oz) for four pieces, in a pack of 115 × 85 × 15 mm (4.53 × 3.35 × 0.59 in) — the lightest figure on this shelf.

The questions players ask

Are strap locks worth fitting?

This shelf already answers that in its own words: they stop the strap coming off the button, which is the most common cause of a dropped instrument, and they cost very little against a repair. What this product adds is the way it does it. Traditional strap locks replace the button — a screw out of the body and a new part in, which on a vintage or expensive instrument is a modification nobody wants to make. These clip over the button and the strap you already have, and come off again. It is the only strap lock on this shelf, and the only one on it that leaves the instrument untouched.

What is the cable hook for?

Keeping the lead plugged in and off the floor. A jack lead hanging straight out of a guitar is pulled by its own weight and by anything that walks past, and the two results are a cable that unplugs mid-song and a strain-relief boot that eventually fails. A channel on the lower block anchors the lead to the strap so the pull goes into the strap rather than the socket — which is what gaffer tape round a strap achieves on most stages. Nothing else on this shelf anchors a cable. Another page on this site makes the related point: cables die where they enter the connector.
