  • A fixed height means no pin, no knob and no joint to work loose over years
  • An open wooden frame leaves the knees clear, where an X-frame puts a bar between them
  • Fixed at 25.2 in: if that is not the right height for the player, nothing can be done

Best for: A digital piano that stays in one room, played by adults, where the stand is furniture rather than kit.

Solid wood, thick panels, reinforced back panel. Height fixed at 25.2 in — 64 cm. Length 45.67 in — 116 cm. Depth adjustable, 8.66 to 12 in. Stated for 76 to 88 keys. Rubber pads at the contact points and non-slip pads underneath. $65.99.

It is the only fixed-height stand on this shelf, and that is the thing to decide about first. Every other stand here adjusts; this one chose not to. Twenty-five point two inches is close to the keybed height of an acoustic piano, which is the height benches are built around, so for an adult on a bench it will be right. For a child, or for standing play, it cannot be made right at all — and the stands here publishing 20 to 34 in and 21.2 to 32.4 in exist for that reader.

What the fixed height buys is the absence of mechanism. No center pin, no pull knob, no friction clamp, nothing that works loose after three years of being adjusted and re-tightened. On a shelf where every other stand’s weak point is a joint, that is a real argument.

The depth adjustment is the one thing it keeps, and it is the right one: 8.66 to 12 inches is what accommodates the difference between a slim stage piano and one with a speaker cabinet behind the keys.

The rubber pads are published in both directions — at the contact points so the instrument is not marked, and underneath so the stand does not move and the floor is not scratched. Few listings on this shelf mention the floor at all.

Three costs, plainly. It does not fold, where nine of the twelve stands here say they do. The record weight is 8,074 g (284.8 oz), the heaviest single stand on this shelf — which is simply what wood instead of tube weighs. And no load rating is published, where the other wooden stand here publishes 100 lb. Another page on this shelf states the rule: where the maker gives no figure, this site does not supply one.

The questions players ask

Is a fixed height a problem?

It is a decision, and 25.2 inches is a reasonable one — close to the height of an acoustic piano keybed, which is what a bench is designed around. For an adult on a proper bench it will be right. For a child, or for anyone who plays standing, it cannot be made right, and the stands on this shelf publishing 20 to 34 in or 21.2 to 32.4 in are the answer instead. What the fixed height buys is the absence of the parts that fail: no center pin, no pull knob, no sliding clamp, nothing to re-tighten in three years. On this shelf it is the only stand that makes that trade.

Wood or steel?

Wood for a room, steel for a van. An open wooden frame has no bar between the player’s knees — the other wooden stand here makes that its main claim in so many words — and it looks like furniture rather than hardware. Steel folds flat, weighs less and adjusts. The record weight here is 8,074 g (284.8 oz), the heaviest single stand on this shelf, and this one does not fold at all, where nine of the twelve state that they do. If the piano is going anywhere, that settles it. If it is not, the wooden frame is the steadier object and the quieter one in a living room.
