MIDI in and MIDI out on one end, USB-C on the other, 6.5 feet between them. Up to 16 channels each way. Red for power, blue for signal. Soft bare copper. No driver. $19.99.

Two of those are the reason to choose it over the cheaper MIDI cable on this shelf.

USB-C is the first. A good many current laptops have nothing else, and the $8.99 cable here ends in USB-A — which means a hub, an adapter, and one more connector in a chain that already has three places to fail. The published length is the second: 6.5 feet, and it is the only MIDI cable on this shelf that publishes one at all. A cable that will not reach the keyboard is not a saving.

The lights go one step beyond the other MIDI cable here. Both have indicators; this is the only listing on this shelf that says what the colors mean — red is power, blue is data. Power with no data means the cable is in the wrong socket or fitted the wrong way round, which is the single most common MIDI fault. No power means the computer end.

The sentence worth reading twice is LEKATO’s own caution: some older or vintage synthesizers may need particular driver settings or a proprietary interface, and may not be recognized. No other MIDI listing on this shelf publishes a limit of its own. It makes the rest of the listing more believable, and if the instrument is a vintage synthesizer it is the line that should decide the order.

The costs: twice the price of the USB-A cable here for the same channel count, and a stated operating-system list that stops at Windows 10.

The product record gives 100 g (3.5 oz).

The questions players ask

Why pay twice as much for USB-C?

Because of what is on the laptop. A good many current machines have USB-C only, and the cheaper MIDI cable on this shelf ends in USB-A — which means a hub or an adapter, one more connector in a chain that already has three. This cable terminates in the socket the computer actually has. The other difference you are paying for is the published length: 6.5 feet, where the USB-A cable on this shelf publishes none at all, and a MIDI cable that cannot reach the keyboard is not a saving.

What does the caution about vintage synthesizers mean in practice?

That generic MIDI is not quite universal. Most instruments with 5-pin sockets follow the standard and work on plug and play; a minority — older machines, some specific models — expect particular driver settings or a proprietary interface, and simply are not recognized. LEKATO is the only maker on this shelf that writes this down. It is a reason to trust the rest of the listing rather than a reason to avoid it, and if the instrument in question is a vintage synthesizer it is the sentence to read before ordering.
